Jasmine - 1971 Triumph Herald 13/60 Convertible

Every year we talk about getting a convertible to enjoy in the Summer and every year we don't do it!! 2002 was different.

First day home with Jasmine. From a Metro GTI to a real car.

The hood is a bit of a poor fit but it's more or less water tight and we can see through the rear window which is a bonus!

Those wheel trims look good but rattle, must get some nice wheels on her and some matching tyres too. She hadn't been used much in the last few years - we did more miles getting her home than she's done in the last 2 years. A T cut and polish made her look a bit more loved.

The first show we went to was Gaydon 2002, for anyone who went you'll see notice that the above was not taken on that day! I didn't take any photos at Gaydon because it tipped it down with rain all day! We found the leaks and even bought some new bits to help fix them. The above was taken at the second show we took Jasmine to - Stafford. A great day out and although she started to show her thirst for oil she did the run OK after a small 'adjustment' on the way - one of her aged water hoses let go, fixed in Halfords car park for pennies. Ordered a complete new set from Canley Classics, they look like they need replacing.

And the kids love her too! This is Poppy who describes Jasmine as a "Nice, comfy, happy car".

Of course you can get 4 big blokes in a Herald convertible - Triumph World's Beale Park Picnic, 2 miles up the road for me!

Duxford Sept 2002 was a good show and a nice day too - I loved the flying displays which were an unexpected bonus. Here's Zoe, Poppy and Claudia enjoying the sunshine.

Me on the way to Fleet Service to cheer on the Round Britain Reliability Run cars, snapped by Suzie Singleton in the Bond Estate. That was the last outing with those wheels/tyres as I bought Claudia her birthday present.

Real Minilites and new tyres.

Very shiny, very pretty, very expensive.

Jobs for the future are to cure the oil consumption - it's not valve guides - a Canley Classics unleaded head has improved but not cured things. Time to pull the pistons, glaze bust the bores and throw some new rings in there. If that doesn't work then it's time to build a new engine :-)

Meanwhile, the Vitesse is waiting expectantly - but now has another PI engine to keep it company and I've acquired a compressor, sand blaster, DA sander.............but that is another story!
